Citizen Science Corners

Citizen Science Corners are specialised areas of libraries or community centres that partner with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) industries to engage the youth and community members in research projects that contribute to real-life global solutions at a regional level.

Citizen Science is when everyday people help scientists by collecting and sharing information about nature, animals, space and many other topics. You don’t need to have qualifications to be a citizen scientist, you just need to be curious and ready to learn! Citizen science brings communities and researchers together to support science in a fun and engaging way.

Citizen Science Corners provide public access to science professionals, tools, and projects. They support community engagement by:

  • creating opportunities to bring the community together and experience hands-on-learning
  • catering to all community members, regardless of their background, age or experience in science
  • enhancing collaboration, which is one of the greatest takeaways from citizen science.

Active participation in citizen science projects enables communities to gain insight into real research, enhance scientific literacy and develop more informed attitudes toward environmental sustainability.
