teachSTEM Citizen Science Summer Camp Program is an immersive, hands-on education program designed to empower youth under 25, especially those from underserved and under-resourced communities. The Program embeds environmental education into communities through real-world citizen science projects to cultivate scientific curiosity, local leadership, and meaningful action on local environmental challenges that have global implications.
With a clear focus on advancing education and protecting the natural environment, this initiative equips community members with science literacy, critical thinking skills, and the knowledge to be an active part of creating positive change in their local environment.
teachSTEM does not ask others to deliver the work. We manage everything, design, delivery, partnerships, training, logistics, impact tracking, and certification. Your support simply enables scale, reach, and sustainability. The model is scalable, inclusive, and deeply rooted in cultural sensitivity and local relevance.
Citizen science involves public participation and collaboration in scientific research with the aim to increase scientific knowledge. It involves the collection and analysis of scientific data in relation to the natural world, performed by citizens in collaboration with scientists and field experts. Citizen science offers a way for people of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to real-world scientific research, from monitoring local environments to tracking global phenomena.
In communities experiencing educational exclusion and environmental degradation, science is often inaccessible and underutilised as a tool for change. Through Citizen Science, this Program directly addresses:
• Environmental pressures where communities lack the tools to monitor and respond to local degradation
• Social inequities where marginalised youth are excluded from education and future pathways
• Educational gaps in science literacy, digital skills, and access to structured science programs.
All programming is culturally adapted, locally anchored, and designed for lifelong learning and community
stewardship. teachSTEM implements a full-service solution that includes:
• Comprehensive partner identification, vetting, and engagement with local community groups, NGOs, and education bodies
• Regionally tailored educational resources that are built on local environmental priorities and mapped to global sustainability frameworks
• Hands-on citizen science activities across biodiversity, air quality, water monitoring, and climate awareness – plus any other environmental challenges specific to the region
• A train-the-trainer model for local facilitators, resulting in certified Critical Thinking Friends
• Digital infrastructure for sustained alumni engagement, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
