Citizen Science Corners

A Place to Investigate. A Place to Contribute. A Place to Understand.

Citizen Science is when everyday people help scientists by collecting and sharing information about nature, animals, space and many other topics. You don’t need to have qualifications to be a citizen scientist, you just need to be curious and ready to learn!

Citizen Science Corners are specialised areas of libraries or community centres that partner with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics industries to engage the youth and community members in research projects that contribute to real-life global solutions at a regional level.

Why Citizen Science Corners Matter

Citizen Science Corners give communities a place to define environmental questions together. Children, teens, adults and seniors can take part in hands-on investigations, learn how to collect reliable local data and interpret evidence about the places they live.

These shared spaces encourage visitors to:

  • explore meaningful environmental questions
  • collect and compare data on water, air, biodiversity or land use
  • interpret evidence with simple, accessible tools
  • contribute findings to libraries, councils and community groups
  • take part in conversations about local environmental change

Citizen Science Corners advance education across all ages and strengthen the natural environment by making scientific participation accessible, inclusive and visible to everyone.

Real Impact in Real Spaces

Logan North Library

Local students created a State of the Environment display in their local Citizen Science Corner, showing drone maps, creek test results and biodiversity observations. Their data stayed in the library over the summer, where hundreds of visitors explored and discussed their findings.

School-based Corners

In schools, Citizen Science Corners become hubs for weekly monitoring, student-driven investigations and community presentations — building confidence and environmental understanding through public sharing of evidence.
